A vastly changed Cliff Room 1 squad rolled into Break Time Tuesday, and they got bounced out by Break Time 1. Led by three-game winner George Guerrero,
Break Time 1 won the last five games of the night to pull away with a 10-5 victory. Gone are Pete Conover and Brent Boone, and Dave Clark was absent, so
Cliff Room had to play with just two of their last-season regulars. One of those regulars, Pat Wieser, led Cliff Room with two wins. Guerrero
finished out his stellar night with a table run over Eddie Velez.
Powerhouse Don Q's 1 opened their season with a loss in game 1, but they quickly recovered with eight straight wins and easily defeated Creekside 1 by a
score of 11-4. Robert Rosa started his winter campaign on a high note, winning three games with one break-and-run. Despite the crushing defeat, there
was a bright spot to Creekside's night. Mike Linetsky won all three games, including wins over Brent Boone and Jim Holloway. This was the first time
in league history that a player has defeated the previous season's A Division champion, B Division champion, and All-Star champion in the same night. Boone
recovered from his opening-game loss to Linetsky to post two wins with a table run.
It took them a while, but the caged Moose finally broke free Tuesday, catching and stampeding Monty's 1 by a final of 8-7. After Josue Solis, Jesse Oliver, and
Ernesto Sanchez all notched their second game wins, Monty's held a commanding 7-3 lead. But they forgot the cardinal rule...never let a caged moose loose indoors.
Behind two game winners Jorge Guerrero, Chuy Martinez, and Bear Hernandez, the Moose Lodge won the last five games to snare the come-from-behind victory.
Two-time defending champion Monty's 2 got off to a quick start this season with a 14-1 victory over host Old King's Road 2. Captain Alfonso Lazaro
led Monty's with three wins and a break-and-run. Teammates Jim "The Animal" Steele, Andres Cortes, and Vicente Mosqueda all had three wins as well.
Geoff Sylvester scored the lone OKR game win.
Sportsman 1 jumped out to a 4-2 lead at Cliff Room 3 but had to wait until the end of the match to finally pull away with a 9-6 victory. Keith Baugher and
Robert Alley's two wins each kept Cliff Room in the match, but Rick Hemmings' win over Tony Lenzi in game 14 was the decisive blow that gave Sportsman the match.
Leana "Mississippi Hellcat" Finley led all scorers with three wins and a break-and-run. Teammate Chris "The Ripper" Ackler also had three wins.
"Super Mario" Reyes had three wins to lead Bak Dor 2 to a 10-5 victory over visiting Tiburon Tavern. Tiburon held a brief 2-1 lead, but Bak Dor quickly moved out in front 4-2
and never trailed from there. Tiburon captain Kevin Rehak's three wins single-handedly kept his team in the match, but after his last win pulled his team to within a game at 6-5,
Bak Dor slammed the door shut with wins in the last four games.
Host Endless Summer had little difficulty handling Old Town Tavern, as Adam Priddy's crew cruised to an 11-4 victory. Behind three wins each by Skyler Stamegna and Shaun Snyder,
Endless Summer won 9 of the first 10 games. Marty Schwind scored two of the four Old Town game wins.
In an evenly matched contest of top teams that saw the return of long-time player Mike Rys, host Cliff Room 2 was able to squeeze out an 8-7 victory over Break Time 5.
The match was a seesaw affair through the first seven games, as each game saw a lead change. Cliff Room went ahead for good with a string of three wins in the middle frame, and
despite three wins by Break Time's Dave Thomas, Cliff Room was able to notch its eighth win in game 13 when captain Jack Poet downed Brian Purrington. Poet, Paul Lacey, and
Jim Zambelli led Cliff Room with two wins each.
Break Time 2 showed no mercy to visiting Carp Billiards, hammering their opponent 13-2. Bob Freed, Denis Nupdal, and Ed Ogden all had three wins to lead
Break Time. Kerry Weissman and Mary Cammack got the lone Carp Billiards game wins.
Sportsman 2 hung tough with a powerful Cliff Room 4 team, but Cliff Room proved too strong in the end, pulling away with an 11-4 victory. Sportsman's Kate Williams, Adriana Vega,
Anthony Saenz, and Derrick Craig each won a game in the first half of the match to take a 4-3 lead, but Cliff Room 4 flexed their muscles and won the last seven games of the night.
Cliff Room's Terry Howell led all scorers with three wins and a table run. Teammate Maurice Elias made up for his opening game loss with a break-and-run in his second game.
Don Q's 2 was one game short of perfect as they demolished host Creekside 2 by a score of 14-1. Peter Garcia led Don Q's with three wins and a break-and-run.
Teammates Steve Myers, Antonio Martinez, and Ismael Huerta also had three wins each. Captain Keith Gruel gathered the lone Creekside game win.
Old King's Road 1 went out on the free-agent market and picked up 13th ranked Pete Conover, and the move paid off as they upset host Monty's 3 by a score of 9-6.
The two teams split the first four games, then wins by captain Rachel Johnson and Conover gave OKR a 4-2 lead, one they would never give up.
The teams traded wins through the next 8 games, but Monty's could never put together back-to-back wins, and it cost them. Conover led OKR with three wins, and
teammate Sam Auchincloss scored his first-ever league table run. Kevin Farrell and Todd Knudsen led Monty's with two wins each. Kerry Randolph had a table run for Monty's, and
teammate Phil Beach had a break-and-run.
