With his three wins, captain Jim Holloway moved into 3rd place in A Division and led his Don Q's 1 team back into 1st place with a 10-5 victory over Bak Dor 2.
Don Q's won the first three games of the match, and despite two wins by Bak Dor's "Super Mario" Reyes, Don Q's was never threatened. Don Q's 1 raised
their record to 5-1, and are now six games ahead of 2nd place Monty's 2. Bak Dor 2 (2-4) slipped one spot to 10th place.
Monty's 1 fell behind 7-2 to visiting Break Time 1 and nearly made a miraculous comeback, but fell one game short as they lost to Break Time, 8-7.
Captain Andre Aparicio got things started for Break Time with a table run in the first game. After two-game winners George Guerrero and Marc Alexander won their
first game, Break Time held a commanding 4-0 lead. Three game winner John Bushnell stopped the Monty's bleeding with a win in game 5, but four games later, Break Time was on the hill at 7-2.
Bushnell's win in game 10 sparked a three-game Monty's rally, but Break Time's Ray Arias beat Josue Solis to spoil Monty's comeback attempt.
4th place Monty's 1 improved to 4-2 on the season. With the loss, Monty's 1 (2-4) fell from 6th to 8th place.
Andres Cortes had a monster night for Monty's 2, winning three games with two table runs, and Monty's 2 handed Sportsman 1 their first loss of the season.
The two teams traded wins through the first eight games of the match, highlighted by table runs by Cortes and Leana "Mississippi Hellcat" Finley. Game 9
between Sportsman's Chris "The Ripper" Ackler and Monty's Edmundo Burques proved to be the pivotal game of the match. With half the balls gone, The Ripper
elected not to play safe, and his miss opened the door for an easy run-out for Burques. Burques inexplicably shtoinked a straight-in 8-ball, leaving The Ripper with a
tough four-ball run-out. After making the hardest of his upcoming shots, The Ripper returned the favor by rattling an easy, straight-in rail shot. Monty's
capitalized on Mundo's good fortune by winning the next four games, sealing the match win. Burques went on to win all three of his games. The Ripper and
Rick "Mad Ass" Hemmings led Sportsman with two wins each. With the win, Monty's 2 (5-1) regained 2nd place and is six game wins behind 1st place Don Q's 1.
Sportsman 1 (5-1) fell from 1st to 3rd place, and they are now seven game wins behind Monty's 2.
Host Creekside 1 won the first six games against Old King's Road 2, then hung on for a closer-than-expected 9-6 victory. Brian Guajardo led Creekside with three wins, and
captain Eric Kaiser led OKR 2 with two wins. With the win, 6th place Creekside 1 evened their record at 3-3. Old King's Road 2 (2-4) fell a spot to 9th place.
5th place Moose Lodge (4-2) had no troubles with visiting Tiburon Tavern as they won by a lopsided score of 14-1. Bear Hernandez, Juan Manzo, Jorge Guerrero, and Sebastian Aldana
all had three wins for Moose Lodge. Ben Woolf got the lone game win for last place Tiburon Tavern (0-6).
3rd place Break Time 5 had some trouble shaking off a tenacious Break Time 2 squad, but once they did, they easily outdistanced their home-bar rivals, 11-4.
Bob Pastor had three wins to lead Break Time 5 to victory.
The night saw the return of Ed Ogden to Break Time 2. Ed had been out for a few weeks with pneumonia, but his game showed no signs of rust as he won his first two games.
Break Time 2 sub Brian Szymczak also won his first two games, but with the team down 5-4, Break Time 5 got the lead out and won the last six games of the match.
Break Time 5 (5-1) is now tied with Don Q's 2, whom they play next week. 6th place Break Time 2 fell to 3-3.
Endless Summer finished strong in their match against Carp Billiards, pulling away with a 10-5 victory. Three-game winners Adam Priddy and Shaun Snyder helped Endless Summer jump out to a 4-1 lead,
but two-game winners Kerry Weissman and Mary Cammack helped Carp Billiards even the match at 4-4. It was all Endless Summer after that. With the win, Endless Summer (2-4)
moved up one spot to 8th place. Last place Carp Billiards fell to 0-6.
With an 11-4 win at home against Creekside 2, 2nd place Old King's Road 1 keeps rolling along at 6-0. Team leader Pete Conover was joined this week in the three-win circle by
his captain, Rachel Johnson. Creekside's Justin Brown had two wins to lead his team. OKR opened up an early 5-1 lead in the match and cruised from there.
10th place Creekside 2 fell to 1-5.
Steve Myers, Peter Garcia, Ismael Huerta, and Antonio Martinez all had three wins for Don Q's 2 in a 13-2 spanking of host Old Town Tavern. Rob Nowland and Miguel Velasquez both got the
better of Don Q's Ken Hilton, but other than that, it was all Don Q's. With the win, Don Q's 2 (5-1) moves into a 3rd place tie with their next opponent, Break Time 5. After opening the
season 2-1, Old Town Tavern (2-4) has managed to get just 8 game wins in the last 3 matches. Their loss dropped them to 9th place.
Host Monty's 3 had little difficulty handling Sportsman 2, defeating the visitors by a score of 12-3. Monty's Kerry Randolph had his best night of the season thus far;
three wins and a table run. Randolph has won his last five games after opening the season 1-9.
Dean Tokumaru and Kevin Farrell also had three wins each for 5th place Monty's 3 (5-1). Captain Anthony Saenz gathered two of the
three Sportsman game wins. 11th place Sportsman 2 remains winless at 0-6.
11th place Cliff Room 3 hosted 1st place Cliff Room 4 in an inter-divisional match that turned out to be a one-sided affair. Peter Tagles and Maurice Elias
both went 3-0 to pace undefeated Cliff Room 4 to their sixth win in a row. Elias started his night out with his third table run of the season.
Two-game winner Tony Lenzi kept the match close in the first frame, but it was all Cliff Room 4 after that. After Cliff Room 4 hosts 9th place Old Town next week, they
embark on a four-game swing against the top teams in B Division. Cliff Room 3 remains winless on the season at 0-6.
After opening the season 0-4, Cliff Room 1 seems to have righted their ship as they beat tough hometown foe, Cliff Room 2, by a score of 9-6. Things didn't start out to
well for Cliff Room 1, however. Captain Jack Poet's break-and-run in game two gave Cliff Room 2 a 2-0 lead. Three-game winners Gene Manriquez and Eddie Velez
helped Cliff Room regain the lead at 3-2, but Brandon Teris put Cliff Room 2 back on top with his league-leading fourth table run. Just as they did in the opening frame, Cliff Room 1
won three straight games to regain the lead at 6-4. Teris completed his perfect night to pull Cliff Room 2 to within a game at 6-5, but Manriquez and Velez answered by winning back-to-back games to clinch the
victory for Cliff Room 1. With the win, Cliff Room 1 (2-4) vaults up the standings, moving from 10th to 7th place. 7th place Cliff Room 2 fell to 3-3.
