| Monty's 1 [7] at Sportsman 1 [8] | view score sheet |
| For the second time this season, 4th place Monty's 1 (11-4) let 1st place Sportsman 1 (14-1) slip through their fingers. After two frames of back-and-forth play in which neither team held more than a one-game lead, Monty's opened the beer frame with two straight wins to go on the hill 7-5. Sportsman regained their composure and knocked down the last three games to win 8-7. The match was not without controvery, however. In game 13, Sportsman's Leana Finley came up dry on a re-break after sinking the 8-ball on her first try. Gerardo Guerrero calmly sank three balls, but on his fourth shot, his follow-through knocked two balls clear across the table and into some other balls, pocketing one of Guerrero's remaining three balls. Both teams had multiple people watching the shot, yet neither team could recreate the original position of the disturbed balls. Since the players could not agree on where the balls were, both sides agreed to replay the game, but Guerrero was upset by the call. On the replay, Finley once again had a dry break, and in frustration, Guerrero intentionally pocketed the 8-ball. The "forfeit" win was just the momentum Sportsman needed to pull off the comeback. Leading Sportsman to victory was Chris Ackler, who had a table run and three wins, including a spectacular run-out in the hill-hill game. Andres Cortes had a very good night for Monty's; three wins and a break-and-run. | |
