5TH ANNUAL SOUTH COAST 8-BALL CHALLENGE The dates for the 5th Annual South Coast 8-Ball Challenge have been set. This year's Challenge will be on the weekend of March 17/18. Once again we will be playing in Simi Valley at The Arena Bar. The format will be the same; 10-person teams, each team must have at least two women. $400 entry fee per 10-person team. Singles and doubles play on Saturday, 5-person team play on Sunday. We will let you know when you can call the adjoining Grand Vista Hotel and get the tournament rate, but often the online deal is just as cheap. On their website a room with a king bed is $71.50 per night and a room with two double beds is $82.50 per night if you select "web reservation" on the hotel website. For those coming down Friday evening we will once again hold a tournament at Butera's Billiards in Moorpark.

WINTER 2011/12 BUDGET FINALIZED The budget for the Winter 2011/12 season has been finalized and approved by the Board of Directors. Here is a summary of the changes to the budget:

Individual payouts were increased by 15%, from $10,200 to $11,760.
Top prize in each division increased from $600 to $800.
The number of individual payouts per division remains at 25.
Team payouts (division and playoffs) were merged.
All teams that advance to playoff quarterfinals will receive a payout.
The league champion team will now receive $1,500.
Best-of-the-Rest tourney payout increased by 65% to $945.
Top 32 players in the Best-of-the-Rest tourney get a payout.
All-Star tourney payout decreased from $2,525 to $1,840.
All-Star champion prize decreased from $600 to $400.
All players advancing to day-two of All-Stars get a payout.
Overall payouts were decreased by $900.
This $900 covers OTT2 debt. Remainder added to banquet and trophies.

DID YOU KNOW??? As of week 16, two players have had the misfortune of having three break-and-runs against them; Mike "Stinger" Perez (Bak Dor 2) and Tony Allred (Don Q's 3). Rachel Johnson (Don Q's 1) leads the league with five total table runs against her this season.

DON'T FORGET YOUR ID!!! The SBPD is conducting underage sting operations, so don't be surprised if you get carded on league night, especially if the bartender is new and/or you are new to the league. YOU MUST HAVE VALID ID in order to stay in the bar. If the ID says that you are over 21 but is not legal to get served alcohol, you cannot stay in the bar, and you cannot play any league games. There is no league waiver. Currently, Don Q's, the Moose Lodge, and Carp & Linden Pub are the only places that allow under-21 patrons.

Carp & Linden Pub has recently recovered all of their tables with electric blue Simonis 860 cloth. Table conditions have never been better!! Tom Gallagher (Don Q's 1) has rejoined the league after an almost 30-year absence. A long time ago Tom was president of the league. Now, Tom is a world-class poker instructor and coach.

Tom has many workbooks for sale on poker strategy (as well as blackjack strategy / card-counting) on his website, www.poker911.net, but Tom will be giving them away FREE to league players.

The only condition is that you must either win all three games in a week or have a table run. That's it!!

FYI - The Thursday Bak Dor tournament has switched from bar rules to league rules. Great news!! Tourney is only $5 and it starts at 9:00 pm.

BCAPL NATIONALS MOVING TO THE RIO IN JULY 2013
CueSports International (CSI) announced two major changes for the 2013 BCAPL National Championships. In 2013, the "Greatest Pool Tournament in the World" will move from May to July ... and will walk the welcome mat at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The 2012 Nationals will still be held this May at the Riviera Hotel & Casino.

FREE GROUP LESSONS FROM ONE OF THE LEAGUE'S BEST PLAYERS Brent Boone, long-time league player and the current leader in 'A' Division, is offering FREE group lessons for teams that are interested in getting better. If you and your teammates have a desire to learn new skills or get pointers on advanced skills, then contact Brent to set up a lesson.
